Summary
The engineering problems were stupendous; the solutions ingenious. And as stated by President Herbert Hoover himself, it was "the greatest engineering work of its character ever attempted by the hand of man." For two years, five thousand workers settled in the Nevada dessert to pour concrete day and night until the Hoover Dam was complete - remarkably under budget and ahead of schedule. As told in Hoover Dam, from the PBS American Experience collection, its electrical output helped build the ships and planes of WWII, and its water irrigated arid California valleys transforming desert into farmland to feed a nation. Most importantly, the film portrays how the tremendous feat of the Hoover Dam renewed the faith in American technology and ingenuity
